I'm Angry All the Time

═══════════════════════════════════════
════════════════════════════════════════

Everything pisses me off and this is the main driver behind what I do and how I operate. Realising this — at the ripe age of almost 42 nonetheless — has been quite a discovery! But it makes sense, here’s how.

I’ve been talking to a friend (over WhatsApp) about stuff, and he said something that I never consciously thought about, but which makes so much sense in retrospect:

  • K: there will be things that piss you off, but that’s a good thing
  • Me: everything pisses me off
  • K: Ha! “Everything pisses me off and that’s my secret”

And sure, he was joking but it is, in fact, the main driver behind a lot of the decisions I made in life, and governs how I operate. And it’s so funny to realise this, something so obvious and yet, something I never verbalised before.

I love fixing things, or building things that work right. Processes, workflows, systems. Because I get so frustrated and pissed by stupid things that don’t work. Why did I devote a large chunk of my adult life and career to environmental conservation? (side note: I should probably write a blogpost about this) Because I got so angry at what we’ve done to the environment, and desperately wanted to make the world a better place. Why do I meticulously work to improve every little detail, piece of copy or workflow? Because I get triggered if something doesn’t seem right. And the list goes on.

Well, that’s it. To being pissed off, the driver that makes us make things better :)
